ORBIS UNUM

Seeing life as a journey.

We believe in fulfilled and fulfilling travel which delivers glimpses of the whole wonder our existence is all about. In Latin, “orbis” stands for the Earth – both as a planet and sphere -, travelling on a circular path, etching a complete trajectory, all the while defining a greater, cyclical progression.

“Orbis” is our touchstone for fulfillment, or closing of a circle and completing a full rotation, experience or observation. In extenso, “orbis” may be the referent while exploring a country, region or pursuing an idea in full, through to its completed cycle, beyond the typical time, space or man-made – linked limitations. Simultaneously, our purpose is to address these very limitations by focusing on the specificity of the respective country, region or tradition as the core of the journey, while surmounting the barriers, cliffs and fences man or nature have often raised on the way. We believe in unicity, diligence and accomplishment as major values leading one’s steps in life. Life that we see as a journey.

Passing on experiences that embellish life.

For our tours, we have rather avoided getting stuck in historic, geographic or ethnic clichés, in “dos” and “don’t dos”, in commercial figures and places, in generalizations or what we generally refer to as stereotypes. Especially as, just as there are no two days alike, there are no two humans, mountains or cities alike, each having a singular, individual story to listen to and follow…

“Unum” indeed! “Unum” as a story that takes us, visitors, to a designated place in time and space, home to a unique fragrance, music and heritage. This story creates our “Orbis Unum” journey world, one that, given the right amount of openness and diligence for a complete pursuit, leads to marvel. This is the core thought behind Orbis Unum, one that has made us eager to ponder on, search, discover, put together and pass on experiences that embellish life.

Summing it all up.

So, with the team at Orbis Unum coming from South-Eastern Europe with all of its inherent deep contrasts, vibrant music, heterogeneous culture, complicated history, succulent pastry, frequent coming and going and diverse scenery – from the cliffs up the Carpathians and Prokletije to the rolling hills in Transylvania and endless meadows down the Danubian Plains, we have thought there could hardly be a better place to create our unique stories about (then yes, we are very biased), all the while working out the myriad of both picturesque and poignant logistics, the result being a world apart, one where our guests’ regular time and chore-related issues become futile:

We look at each other for a moment and wordlessly ask one another, only through eye contact: ‘any news from the outside world?’. We then return to the chess game, to the book already started, to our usual silence. And so seasons pass, years come and go, and we are always here, the four of us, on our little farm, like a ship sailing around the world, without any stopover…
